Simulating von Kármán Vortex Streets with Lattice Gas Automata

چکیده
In 1911 Theodore von Kármán first noticed the unusual alternating stream of vortices that result from fluid flowing past a cylinder. This phenomenon, now known as a von Kármán vortex street, only occurs for fluids with particular characteristics. The most important attribute, is the Reynolds number, which is the ratio of inertial forces to viscous forces in the fluid. It turns out that vortices will only occur in fluid with high Reynolds numbers. In Figures 1, 2 and 3 we see examples of this phenomenon occurring.

Von Kármán vortex streets on the sphere
We consider streamline patterns associated with single and double von Kármán point vortex streets on the surface of a nonrotating sphere, with and without pole vortices. The full family of streamline patterns are identified and the topological bifurcations from one pattern to another are depicted as a function of latitude and pole strength. The process involves first finding appropriate vortex ...
متن کاملLattice Gas Automata Simulation of Adsorption Process of Polymer in Porous Media
Lattice gas automata (LGA) model is developed to simulate polymer adsorption process by adding some collision rules. The simulation result of the model is matched with batch experiment and compared with accepted isothermal adsorption equations. They show that the model is viable to perform simulation of the polymer adsorption process. The LGA model is then applied for simulating continuous poly...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Fluid Flow Past a Square Cylinder Using a Lattice Boltzmann Method
The method of lattice boltzmann equation(LBE) is a kinetic-based approach for fluid flow computations. In the last decade, minimal kinetic models, and primarily the LBE, have met with significant success in the simulation of complex hydrodynamic phenomena, ranging from slow flows in grossly irregular geometries to fully developed turbulence, to flow with dynamic phase transitions. In the presen...

متن کاملCellular Automata for Simulating Molecular Self-Assembly
We present a lattice gas technique for simulating molecular self-assembly of amphiphilic polymers in aqueous environments. Water molecules, hydrocarbons tail-groups and amphiphilic head-groups are explicitly represented on a three dimensional discrete lattice. Molecules move on the lattice proportional to their continuous momentum. Collision rules preserve momentum and kinetic energy. Potential...
